Dear Sabbath Seekers,
My husband begins our morning blessing with the words, “O God, thank you for the gift of this day” and then he goes on to pray that we would have the eyes to see the gifts and the heart to celebrate them. It really is a great reminder each day that God has blessed us with another sunrise and that day before us holds gifts we cannot even imagine as we eat our toast and sip our coffee.
Sabbath Moments are truly moments of celebration when we take time throughout the day to acknowledge the gifts of the day by opening our eyes and our hearts to the beauty of God working in our lives.
What if for the next week you took three Sabbath Moments a day to stop and celebrate the gifts of the day that you are experiencing or have experienced? Think of them as mini joy breaks. Begin to look at your day as a series of opportunities to see God at work and then to acknowledge them to God. Be creative in how you celebrate or just say a simple thank you, but in each joy break name the gift and see the beauty of it for you, for others or for the world. Maybe even keep a journal or them or note them on your calendar. At the end of the week you may have an entirely new perspective on how God is working in your life and in the life of the world.
Here’s a gift to get your started: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him.” John 3.16-17
